14 Things to Appreciate During Quarantine

It came as a cruel surprise, as it did for everyone. Three weeks ago, I worked a normal barista shift at Treeline Coffee Roasters on a Wednesday morning. I arrived home, decided to take a nap because of a worsening migraine, then woke up to a coughing fit and a flurry of news stories about COVID-19’s rapid spread across the U.S. One week later, I was laid off from my job.

Rather than gripe about all the ways I’m now inconvenienced by the pandemic and letting myself slip into a prolonged depression, I’m trying something else. In the midst of bad news and worse days, I find that scrolling through my camera roll or reading what I’ve written down on paper during mundane but joyous moments are what has kept me sane. Other things help, too. Here they are, lest I forget:
