Living in Montana, I saw plenty of animals in my day-to-day adventures. Winter is definitely the easiest time to spot them since the blank canvas of snow puts every creature on display. I realize bears aren't really out and about in winter, but I couldn't resist painting one anyway. I saw two black bears perched like this in the middle of a thicket this summer while on a hike. The tomte (santa) hat adds a silliness to make an otherwise mundane portrait cheery.
