Living in Montana, I saw plenty of animals in my day-to-day adventures. Winter is definitely the easiest time to spot them since the blank canvas of snow puts every creature on display. Foxes have always been especially dear to me--when I was younger, my brother and I would feed our fox friend, Rufus, ginger cookies by dropping them off of our second-story porch. The tomte (santa) hat adds a silliness to make an otherwise mundane portrait cheery.
